University Network on the illegal invasion and seizure in Venezuela

Following US attacks on Venezuela and the detention of its president Nicolás Maduro, UNHR experts explain the illegality of the acts under international law.

In an interview with Extraclasse, UNHR Executive Director Jim Cavallaro said, “The [UN] Charter is explicit in prohibiting the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any State.”

With ATB Digital, UNHR Legal Director Thomas Becker agreed that “Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter is clear: the use of force against the territorial integrity of another country is illegal.”
